With limited pitches in Hong Kong all clubs need to adjust to the needs of the various tournaments.  Please check with your team managers and coaches on upcoming events such as the 10s tournaments for changes in training times and any extra training sessions

The training session normally runs for 120 minutes on pitch 1 of Stanley Ho Sports Centre. The Rugby season runs through to early April. Currently we have over 150 registered players at Youth in both boys and girls rugby, participating in the leagues within Hong Kong.  On Sunday morning the Stanley Ho Sports Centre ground staff open a gate directly onto the field from Sha Wan Drive that you can walk through to enter the pitches.

Playing Kit
Upon paying the initial membership fees, all new players will receive their playing kit. The playing kit we provide includes jersey, shorts and socks.

A player is required to arrive with and use:

  • A good quality mouth guard (available for purchase from the club house)
  • Rugby (soccer) boots with studs / cleats
  • Named water bottle
The Club provides various training equipment including balls and tackle bags, etc.

Fees and Registration
Membership fees are $600 for the player and $50 for the parent of the player.

Registration also ensures that appropriate player insurance cover is in place.

Age Groups
The Hong Kong Rugby Union (HKRFU) has decreed that all players must play in their correct age group. There are exceptions to this based on safety as noted below. Due to the limited numbers of players available at youth level throughout Hong Kong, Age groups are allocated to calendar years January to December. For clarity the age groups for the 2010 - 2011 season are:
  • 1997 & 1998 - U14; if your child was born in 1997 or 1998, he / she plays for the U14s
  • 1995 & 1996 - U16
  • 1992 & 1993 & 1994  - U19 (Boys)
  • 1992 & 1993 & 1994 - U19 (Girls only)

Playing Up and Playing Down
Players can only move down or up an age group for reasons of safety, usually linked to relative size and or weight. If a player wishes to move up or down an age group, the parents via the Club must apply to the Union and gain its approval. If you wish your child to play up/down or you have a concern, please speak to your child's coach or the Club Chairman.

Coaches and Team Managers
We have highly motivated coaches and a team manager for each age group - all are volunteers. On your first day of training please introduce yourself and your child to the head coach for the relevant age group. At this more senior level of Rugby we also employ the services of professional coaches to develop the players.

Girls' Teams
Girl's rugby is the fastest-growing of all sections of the Hong Kong Rugby Union. For the past two seasons we have run U14, U16 and U19 girls' teams, which have had a great deal of success. We would really like to further develop our girls' teams this year and are looking for players and volunteers to support the existing coaches and promote the girls' game. Any and all girls who would like to have a go at playing the great team sport of rugby are welcomed to come down and give rugby a try.

Hong Kong Sevens Tickets
Membership gives players the opportunity to buy Sevens tickets. Watch out for an update on the HK7's on this website later in the season.
